Firebase but better, and open source

Supabase is what Firebase should have been. You get a real PostgreSQL database, auth, realtime subscriptions, and storage all in one package. The free tier is generous and the community is amazing.

Pros

  • Real PostgreSQL
  • Generous free tier
  • Open source
  • Great realtime

Cons

  • Dashboard can be confusing
  • Documentation gaps
  • Edge functions are young

The all-in-one workspace that actually works

Notion has become the backbone of our team. We use it for docs, project management, wikis, and even as a simple CRM. The flexibility is unmatched. Yes, it can be slow with large databases, but the tradeoff is worth it.

Pros

  • Incredibly flexible
  • Great collaboration
  • Beautiful templates
  • API integrations

Cons

  • Can be slow with large databases
  • Mobile app needs work
  • Learning curve for non-tech users

Finally, a project management tool developers actually enjoy

Linear changed how our team works. The keyboard shortcuts, the speed, the clean UI. It's like someone built a project management tool for people who hate project management tools.

Pros

  • Incredibly fast
  • Beautiful UI
  • Great keyboard shortcuts
  • Cyclic workflows

Cons

  • Limited customization
  • No time tracking
  • Can be opinionated

Best DX for frontend deployment, but pricey at scale

Vercel offers the best developer experience for Next.js projects. Preview deployments, edge functions, and analytics are all top-notch. However, costs can sneak up on you as you scale.

Pros

  • Amazing DX
  • Perfect Next.js integration
  • Great preview deploys
  • Edge functions

Cons

  • Expensive at scale
  • Vendor lock-in concerns
  • Limited backend capabilities

Email infrastructure that doesn't make you want to cry

After struggling with SendGrid and Mailgun, Resend was a breath of fresh air. The API is clean, the docs are excellent, and React Email integration makes templates a joy to build.

Pros

  • Clean API
  • Excellent docs
  • React Email support
  • Good deliverability

Cons

  • Newer platform
  • Limited templates
  • Pricing jumps quickly
